New Westminster is the oldest city west of Ontario

Because of the Caribou gold rush in 1858 so many miners cam to the Fraser River that Great Britain to keep her ownership of  New Caledonia that a regiment of sappers under Col. Moody were sent.  The territory of Vancouver Island and New Caledonia we joined in November of 1858 and this combined colony was called British Columbia.  In the spring of 1859 when Col Moody arrived he found the spot to become the Capitol of  British Columbia which was New Westminster.  New Westminster saw it`s first baseball game in 1861.
